FALL INFORMATION

The Bowmanville Figure Skating Club is undergoing a modernization process to align its operations with best practices as outlined by Skate Ontario. These adjustments will help clarify our skater's journey and bring more of a focus on physical literacy and the athlete as a whole.  As part of this effort, we’re providing clear, updated descriptions of our programs. Please take a moment to review them carefully to ensure your skater is registered for the correct session.

Fall Registration for all CanSkate programs will be:

 

SUNDAY, August 24, 2025 -registration will open at 3:00 pm

 

Fall Registration for all Star Skate Programs will be 

 

MONDAY, August 25th, 2025- registration will open at 7:00 am

 

(Please note Starskaters with home clubs that are NOT BFSC MUST WAIT UNTIL August 30th  to register for fall programs.)

 

 

Regular skating will begin the week of September 8th.

 

The CanSkate program is Skate Canada's flagship learn-to-skate program, designed to teach fundamental skating skills in a fun and engaging way for all ages and abilities. It's a structured program focused on developing balance, control, and agility on the ice, preparing participants for various ice sports like hockey, figure skating, and speed skating, or for recreational skating.  

 

Pre-CanSkate is for skaters age 3 years by December 31/25 who have never skated before. Some skaters registered in this program may progress quickly and be moved into CanSkate Stages 1 to 3.

 

Canskate 1-3,  This program is for new and returning skaters age 4+ years ( OR passed PreCan ribbon) who are working on stages 1, 2 or 3 of the CanSkate program. This program is fully coached

 

Canskate 4-6, Skaters must have passed CanSkate Stage 3 to register for this program. This program is fully coached.

 

Adult/Teen Canskate. This program is for Adults and teens 14+. Whether you're new to skating or want to brush up on some of your old skills, this program is for you. This program is fully coached.

 

StarSkate

STAR 1-5 curriculum is Skate Canada’s premier figure skating program. 

 

-Star 1-2 This program is the introduction to figure skating. Skaters will receive lessons from club coaches in freeskate, dance, skills, artistic and synchro. Skaters must have completed the CanSkate program (with the completion of the Stage 6 badge) to register for this program. This program is fully coached.

 

-Star 3+ These sessions are for skaters who have passed all three Star 2 tests plus at least 2 complete Star 3 tests; OR passed all three Star 2 tests and are 14 years of age by Dec 31/25 

-Many sessions include group classes and time for skaters to work on practising their skills or working with a private coach. 

-Sessions also require skaters to do off-ice warm-up and cool-down activities

 

-Star 4+ These sessions are for skaters who have passed all Star 3 assessments and 2 completed Star 4 tests OR passed all three Star 2 tests and are 14 years of age by Dec 31/25 

 

Open Ice Sessions:

  • Skaters in Star levels 2 through 5 may access open ice in addition to their regularly scheduled programming sessions.

  • Open ice is not to be used as a substitute for regular programming, but rather as a supplementary opportunity for practice and growth.

Off-Ice Sessions:

  • Our off-ice sessions focus on developing fundamental movement skills - off-ice classes may include conditioning, off-ice jumps, spinners, yoga, dance, etc.

  • Off-ice training is an integral part of a figure skater's training, but it also helps to develop physical literacy, which is important on and off the ice. 
    *Off-ice classes will be available and are part of your skater's program for all StarSkaters and CanSkate 4-6 (passed CanSkate 3)schedules will be provided at the beginning of the season.
